What is a Gastric Balloon?

The Gastric Balloon is a device temporarily placed in the stomach to help overweight individuals lose weight. This method offers a suitable alternative, especially for people who cannot lose enough weight with diet and exercise and do not prefer a surgical intervention. By physically limiting the stomach capacity, the Gastric Balloon allows the patient to eat less and therefore lose weight.

The Gastric Balloon procedure is performed with an endoscopic technique, usually under sedation. During this procedure, a balloon is inserted into the stomach through the mouth and then inflated with a sterile solution or air.
